Scritchy Scratchy save export and import guide

Use the save tools shown by your current build, preserve the original backup, and verify imported progress before relying on a cross-device or cross-platform move.

What the official sources confirm

An official November 2025 demo update introduced save export and import through the clipboard so players could make backups and continue on another platform. The current Steam store page separately lists Steam Cloud for the paid PC release.

Those two systems should not be treated as identical. Steam Cloud is platform-managed synchronization; clipboard export creates data that the player can store and attempt to import where a compatible in-game option exists.

How to export a backup safely

Open the save or settings menu in your current build and look for the export option. Use only the control the game provides. After exporting, paste the clipboard contents into a private plain-text file and label it with the platform, game version, and date.

Do not edit the exported data, publish it in a forum, or overwrite the only known-good copy. Make a second copy before testing any import or major update.

How to import without losing progress

First export the destination device’s current save if the option exists. Copy the intended backup to the clipboard, open the game’s import control, and follow the confirmation shown by that build.

After importing, verify the balance, Prestige progress, achievements, gadgets, and Night Market collection before deleting either backup. If the import fails or fields are missing, stop and restore the destination backup instead of repeatedly replacing the save.

Cross-platform limits to expect

The official announcement confirms the clipboard feature in the demo-era build, but it does not guarantee that every later Steam, itch.io, iOS, and Android version exposes the same import control or accepts every older save format.

Check both the source and destination builds before promising a transfer. A store purchase, Steam Cloud save, mobile save, and browser demo save can live in different platform containers even when the core game is described as equivalent.

When a save will not resume or import

Record the platform, version, last successful session, error message, and whether the original save still opens. Avoid reinstalling or clearing app data until a separate backup exists, because those actions may remove the evidence or the recoverable local copy.

Use the official support page for a reproducible report. Do not send a public copy of the save data unless official support specifically requests it through a private channel.
